A real treat for everyone

There was a real treat for everyone today at the November sub-branch meeting: local bookseller Michelle Wheatley, from  the lovely Armidale bookshop Reader’s Companion,  gave a fantastic talk, introducing us to a wonderful treasure chest of new children’s books, from quirky and unusual illustrated non-fiction to gorgeous picture books, fun chapter books and rollicking adventures and intriguing mysteries for middle-grade readers. Michelle shared her passion and knowledge in a most inspiring and engaging presentation and we were all able to have a good look at each book. A great morning was had by all! A list of books shown will be uploaded soon to our website.

Our first 2015 meeting on soon: and some good news!

Im-a-Dirty-Dinosaur1Our first meeting for 2015 will be held on Saturday February 7 at 10 am at the Armidale Dumaresq Library. All current, past and prospective members very welcome to attend. This will be our big planning meeting, in which we will have the enjoyable task of deciding on our program for the year. Come along and make your suggestions!

At the end of 2014, we received the welcome news that we had been successful in obtaining funding again from the Country Arts Support Program for our participation in the third Booked In children’s and YA literature festival, to be held in Armidale August 12-16, 2015 (the week before Book Week). Once again we will collaborate with the New England Writers’ Centre on the festival, and as well, this year, with the New England Regional Art Museum. The fantastic illustrator Ann James, whose latest book, I’m A Dirty Dinosaur (written by Janeen Brian)was an Honour Book in the 2014 CBC Awards, will be our featured guest.
